בתגובה לצורך הישיר של הלקוח בשיטה יעילה לזיהוי תצורות אבטחה שגויות נפוצות, מיקרוסופט פיתחה את Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA). MBSA גרסה 1.2 כוללת ממשק גרפי ושורת פקודה שיכול לבצע סריקות מקומיות או מרחוק של מערכות Windows. MBSA פועל על מערכות Windows 2000, Windows XP ו-Windows Server 2003 ותסרוק לאיתור תצורות שגויות נפוצות של המערכת במוצרים הבאים: Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Internet Information Server (IIS), SQL Server, Internet Explorer, ו-Office. MBSA 1.2 יסרוק גם לאיתור עדכוני אבטחה חסרים עבור המוצרים הבאים: Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, IIS, SQL Server, Internet Explorer, Exchange Server, Windows Media Player, Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) , MSXML, Microsoft Virtual Machine, Commerce Server, שרת ניהול תוכן, BizTalk Server, Host Integration Server ו-Office.
